Last Thursday, Against Me! began their 2-night residency at Baltimore’s Rams Head Live as a part of their “Album Shows'“ tour, which saw them play Searching For A Former Clarity and New Wave on the first night and White Crosses and Transgender Dysphoria Blues on the second night. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to shoot Night 1. Below are a set of selects from the show.
While photography is a big part of my day-to-day job, I hadn’t shot a concert in roughly 8 years (the first and last show happened to be Holy Ghost! @ the 9:30 Club in D.C. while they were touring behind their eponymous debut album). With all that in mind, I was incredibly pleased with the results I got last week — and so stoked with how these images turned out. Many more were captured, but these are a set of my favorites.
Against Me! has become one of my favorite bands, and Laura Jane Grace is such an inspiring soul, not just an inspiring artist. And James, Andrew, and Atom…the chemistry they all have on stage is infectious. What makes Against Me!’s live show so enjoyable is that all four of them appear like they’re still filled with the same youthful excitement that consumes your heart, mind, and soul when you first start a band — and really believe in what you’re doing with that band. They’ve played these songs so many times before, in so many different states, countries, venues…and yet, they looked like they were so stoked to have the opportunity to play them one more time; the joy that comes from collectively sharing that moment in time with each other and the energetic, appreciative crowd packed into Rams Head Live.
